Earth, Wind, Fire, Water - Nordic Contemporary Crafts is the 44th edition of the exhibition series Tendenser at Galleri F 15 in Moss, Norway. This year’s exhibition is curated by Randi Grov Berger and brings together seventeen artists and artist groups from the Nordic countries who uses their craft, their tools and their deep material knowledge to address pending environmental issues. These practices explore the potential of materials and the elements to co-author artistic works; to participate in and at times control the process and outcome.

Through their work, which encompasses biology, geology, and cosmology, the artists confront a longing for a deeper connection to the earth. They challenge our perception of materials, of the so-called natural world, and of ourselves.

The exhibition is a collaboration with the Nordic Network of Crafts Associations.

Tendenser
For nearly 50 years Tendenser has been one of the leading platforms for contemporary crafts in the Nordic region. The biennial contemporary craft exhibition Tendenser was first presented as an annual exhibition in 1971 at Galleri F 15 in Moss, Norway. Since then the exhibition has expanded from its initial focus on Norwegian contemporary crafts to incorporating trends from across the Nordic countries. By partnering with the Nordic Network of Crafts Associations (NNCA) the exhibition will solidify its Nordic focus further and give an in-depth exploration of the Nordic craft scene.

Publication
The publication Earth, Wind, Fire, Water is an anthology containing texts by seven authors and scholars living in the Nordic countries. It will be launched during the exchibition. The contributors in the publication are: Dr. Camilla Groth, Jenni Nurmenniemi; Dr. Nicolas Cheng, Dr. Jessica Hemmings, Nina Wöhlk, Ánne Márjá Guttorm Graven og Æsa Sigurjónsdóttir.

Galleri F 15 og Momentum

Gallery F 15 was established in 1966 and is one of Norway's oldest and most prestigious exhibition venues for Norwegian and Nordic contemporary arts and crafts. The unique nature of the gallery lies in the unique combination of the art and the site's architecture in a 19th-century courtyard and situated in a historic country house landscape at Jeløy in Moss.

The MOMENTUM BIENNALE was shown for the first time in 1998 and is today one of the most long-standing and important arenas for contemporary art in the Nordics. MOMENTUM is Galleri F 15’s most significant international commitment and is held every two years.
